Will I get treatment during my first visit?

Most of the time, yes! After we review your history and do a physical exam, we’ll decide if treatment is right for you. Sometimes, we might need x-rays or other tests first to make sure it’s safe to start care.

What should I wear for my appointment?

Accepted Answer

Most patients will be treated at their first appointment.  This decision is made by the doctor after a comprehensive history and physical has been performed.  Based on your unique complaint the doctor may request x-rays or other testing be completed prior to treatment in order to ensure that it is safe for you to have chiropractic care.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?

Accepted Answer

You do not need a referral to see a chiropractor, however some insurance plans may require a referral from your primary care physician for reimbursement.  It is recommended that you check with your employer's human resources department or the insurance carrier directly if you have any questions or doubts regarding your insurance plan.

What is "evidence based" chiropractic?  How can it benefit me?

Evidence based chiropractors base their techniques on published research.  Evidence based care has been proven to be a useful alternative to surgery for a significant percentage of musculoskeletal complaints (e.g. low back pain and neck pain).  In addition to the medical benefits of chiropractic, many patients are finding that evidence based chiropractic provides a more cost and time efficient alternative to more invasive and costly medical treatments.

Do you take Medicare?

Yes, we accept supplemental Medicare plans like Excellus, MVP, and BCBS. Keep in mind, Medicare doesn’t cover the cost of your first appointment, so you’ll need to pay for the initial exam. After that, Medicare covers medically necessary spinal adjustments, and your co-pay will depend on your insurance plan.

For how long will I need chiropractic care?

A unique treatment plan will be established for you by the doctor at your first visit.  This treatment plan will outline the expected progress of care and the estimated length of your care.  Some patients will feel relief of their symptoms at their first appointment while other patients will require more visits.  Your unique treatment plan provides an outline to the doctor and patient in order to track progress as well as determine when a change in treatment or frequency is required.

Are chiropractic adjustments safe?

Chiropractic adjustments are very safe.  We are happy to supply you with information that you or your other healthcare providers may like supporting chiropractic safety.

What is the "cracking" or "popping" sound I hear when I get adjusted?"

Accepted Answer

Synovial fluid provides lubrication for the joints in our body.  A waste product of this fluid is gas which naturally builds up in your joints.  When joints are gapped, such as in a chiropractic adjustment, theses gases are released which can make a "popping" sound.  This is what happens when you crack your knuckles.

How do Flexion-Distraction technique and Spinal Decompression differ?

Flexion-Distraction and Spinal Decompression both aim to decompress the spine, but they differ in their approach. Spinal Decompression is usually performed by a device or table, while Flexion-Distraction is an active treatment done by the doctor using a specialized table. Both methods are effective and supported by leading medical boards.
