Chiropractic Treatments
Chiropractic comes from the Greek word 'cheir' (hands) and 'praxis' (practice) to describe the hands-on therapy of chiropractic. Chiropractic adjustments (AKA Spinal manipulation) are performed utilizing a controlled, rapid force to a joint (most commonly in the spine). The goal of treatment is to reduce pain and improve range of motion through increasing joint movement, changing joint kinematics, increasing the pain threshold and muscle strength, and release of natural analgesic (pain-relieving) agents.
This force is either delivered through the doctors hands or through a small adjustive tool known as an Activator. Chiropractors also focus on the soft tissues, tendons, and ligaments supporting joints. Manual therapies that may be utilized while undergoing care at our office include:
-
Heat
-
Ice
-
Electrical stimulation
-
Ultrasound therapy
-
Cold Laser (AKA Low Level Light Therapy)
-
Rehabilitative exercises
-
Nutritional counseling
